Rains bring life to our new trees

26 June 2021

The arrival of the rains has meant our recently planted trees are growing strong.

June has seen the arrival of the rainy season in Kenya helping to support healthy growth of our recently planted trees. The trees are thriving and growing quickly in the tropical sun. Thanks to the rains, the installed water tanks are also almost full.

This month, the installation of the shade net marked the successful completion of the construction of our new shade house. This has provided the best suitable conditions for our seedlings survival and growth and has meant the propagation process of various indigenous species has been a success. We have managed to propagate 16 species in the past week alone. While the propagation process goes on, we are developing suitable protocols for the remaining species.

Meanwhile, we are still nurturing the seedlings in the nursery whereby watering, potting, repotting and manure application is ongoing.

We are also organizing an outreach activity. Ahead of this event, we have been preparing a range of educational materials.

Species identification tags will help students at Pwani university learn about the local indigenous flora.
