🌟 Spotlight Project - The Atlantic Forest, Brazil
The Atlantic Forest. One of Earth's most biodiverse yet critically endangered ecosystems—less than 12% remains, yet it's home to 20,000 plant species and countless threatened animals found nowhere else on Earth.
As world leaders gather for COP in Brazil, we have a unique opportunity to take direct action in this biodiversity hotspot that serves as one of the planet's most powerful carbon sinks.

This is a proud collaboration between the LEAF Charity and Universidade Federal do Reconcavo da Bahia (UFRB).
We aim to raise £3000 to support further carbon reduction, protection of threatened species in the Atlantic Forest, and environmental education of youth and the local community in Brazil.

What the £3000 will cover🌱🪲
1. Nursery Infrastructure and Supplies (£1500):
- Greenhouse Materials (£900): Basic structure for seedling protection (plastic cover, frames), including irrigation system and soil/substrate.
- Expeditions for seed collections (£300): Collection of seeds on nearby forest fragments prioritizing local availability and adaptability
- Experiments to learn how to grow threatened species (£300): Does what it says on the tin - we gather this data and release it so more restoration can happen.
2. Tools and Equipment (£400):
- Tools (£200): Shovels, pruning shears, gloves, watering cans.
- Transportation (£200): Renting a small vehicle for local transport of seedlings and supplies.
3. Part-Time Employee (£1100):
- Salary (£1000): Assuming a modest local wage for a part-time nursery worker.
- Training and Miscellaneous (£100): Basic training in professional nursery management and to hedge against unforeseen expenses.
